About Divino Our Cuisine

Our chef John Donovan, along with our executive chef of Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts, Alistair Barnes, has created a menu that embraces the heritage of America’s grand bistros. Focusing on only the highest quality of local products, Chef Donovan proudly offers naturally raised game from CRMR’s own Alberta game ranch.

The room, the food, the drink, the people – Divino offers a unique atmosphere that is diverse and comfortable. Whether you are looking at hosting a corporate event, have time for a quick glass of wine on your way to the theatre, or searching for that perfect location for a first date, Divino sets the scene perfectly, and continues to be one of downtown Calgary’s most successful restaurants.

Our locally inspired menus are complimented by an award winning wine list offering global selections authored by CRMR Wine Director Brad Royale.

Wine Program Philosophy

There must be a purpose to a wine list and the products that sustain it. Each product must fill a particular role within its qualities to be an active participant.

Our goal is to provide a small, but thought-out selection of some of the most qualitatively interesting wines our market has to offer.

Our selections are based on wines that are representative of their area of production; wines that have character and charm; have a broad appeal to the food we serve; and most of all, wines that have soul. We like to refer to these wines as “brain wines”, wines that pass along your tongue and shoot right up to the brain to make you think. Each wine on Divino’s list must serve these purposes; there is no room for passive innocuous wine.

History A Refined and Energetic Bistro

Divino Wine & Cheese Bistro, part of Canadian Rocky Mountain Resorts family of companies, originally opened in 1984 as a quaint 30 seat restaurant, located in downtown Calgary’s iconic Grain Exchange building. Divino has since relocated to the historic Calgary Wine and Spirits building on Stephen Avenue Walk (8th Avenue SW).

The bistro features an energetic weekday lunch hour, and is bustling throughout the evening with theatre-goers and international visitors.

The restaurant has two private rooms for social corporate clients to host cocktail parties, corporate meetings and intimate dinners – completing a three floor restaurant that is alive with activity.
